The Department’s wide area of academic interest is pedagogy of English and Foreign Languages. The thrust area of study and research is communicative aspects of languages, literature and culture. With the emergence of English as a global lingua franca, the teaching of English language has been given added importance. PhD research in English, P G Diploma in Communicative English, Integrated Diploma in Japanese, Certificate Programme in German and Certificate Programme French are the programmes currently available in the department. The department is also offering a P G Elective course in Communicative English. The Chief attraction of the Department is the part time evening programmes/courses offered which are very helpful to the students of other Programmes and employed personnel. A multimedia laboratory has been set up in the department.to develop communication skills in English and other foreign languages.

The extension activities of the Department consist of conducting short – term Courses in English and foreign languages for institutions and for the public on demand. We also undertake consultancy in terms of interpretation and translation. Short- term Courses and vacation programmes for school students in English and Foreign Languages including modules in personality development are conducted regularly.

The Department regularly conducts National Seminars, Workshops and Webinars on the realms of Language, literature, film and Culture.
